Remote Teaching Service Induction 2013

If you are a fellow teacher heading to a remote teaching placement next year, I’ll just update you on my progress signing up for the RTS Induction.

I am coming from interstate and have yet to be given my WA employee number, therefore I am unable to book online through the professional learning institute website. I have had to be in contact with someone from the PLi to get myself on their system to secure a place in the induction PD. I was then required to pay over the phone with my credit card and the school would reimburse me. I had some trouble with that system so am just waiting to find out how to reserve my place still.

Moral of my tale? If you are intending to go to the RTS induction PD in Perth, you should probably get onto it!! See the details below.

The Department’s Institute for Professional Learning will be holding an induction program for teachers and school leaders newly appointed to Remote Teaching Service schools to help prepare for the challenges and excitement of working and living in a remote environment.

Date:               16 – 17 January 2012
Venue:             Workshop 1, Building B, Schools of Isolated and Distance Education,
                        164 -194 Oxford Street, Leederville
Times:             8.30 to 3.30 daily

The Remote Teaching Service Induction program will include presentations and information about:

  • workforce entitlements,
  • health and well-being in remote communities,
  • Aboriginal health considerations and implications for learning,
  • classroom management strategies,
  • teaching and learning for Aboriginal students, and
  • Cultural awareness.

The cost of the program is $200 (+ GST) and includes morning tea, lunch and workshop materials.  Once you have enrolled, an invoice will be sent to your new (remote) school.
